Location
Nova Siri is situated in the center of the Ionian coast, a bridge between Taranto and Sybaris, in the heart of Magna Grecia, where once flourished the ancient Siris, capital city of Siris.
The Ionian coast, in Basilicata, 35 km long. about from Metaponto in Nova Siri, offers visitors wide beaches of golden yellow sand, and pebble beaches in the stretch to the south looking towards the Pollino National Park.
Nova Siri and Metaponto are undoubtedly the most famous places of the coast.
In this area, in the eighth century BC, were built, as expression of Magna Grecia, city of Metaponto, Siris, Eraclea and Pandosia.
Vestiges of this important historical period, are visible in the archaeological site of Metaponto, Policoro and Nova Siri: think of the Palatine Tables, the Temple of Hera, the sanctuary of Lycian Apollo, the Roman Villa Swan of the Vagni.
The artifacts found in this vast area are on display at the National Museum of Metaponto and at the National Museum of Siris.
On this end of the Ionian, visitors can therefore not only enjoy the amazing marine environment but also to visit important historical sites, such as the mass of Matera, UNESCO world heritage site.
